Love and Rockets Format Changes

According to Fantagraphics, the current Love and Rocket series (Volume II) is ending with #20 to be replaced by a new series of annual graphic novels.

Love and Rockets Volume III will launch in Summer 2008 with around 100 pages of new material, including work originally solicited for Volume II #21. The cover price is said to be #14.99.

Fantagraphics publisher Gary Groth says, "This new format will allow the Bros. to present longer stories without having to chop them down into bite-size pieces." The remark was commenting on how the brothers felt restrained by the smaller format and went on to reflect on the recent mindset of comics readers where most are unlikely to keep up with a story that's cut into parts and spread out in a book that comes out four times a year.

This is an interesting move and I hope it's successful. I've seen several comic anthology books at Barnes and Noble recently and I think that we may be witnessing the beginnings of a whole new format of comics.

And for completists (like me), Fantagraphics says that the stories presented in Volume III will likely be reprinted in the ongoing trades featuring the complete works of the brothers.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering why there was such a long lag after #20.
